Beyond the Ordinary: Discover the Wild Beauty of Yoho.
While most travelers flock to Banff, the savvy adventurer heads west to Yoho National Park. “Yoho” is a Cree expression of awe and wonder, and this tour lives up to its name. Join us for a full-day exploration of deep emerald waters, thunderous waterfalls, and engineering marvels. This tour is designed for nature lovers who enjoy a mix of iconic sightseeing and light-to-moderate hiking. From the stunning Wapta Falls (strongest and widest in Canadian Rockies) and towering mist of Takakkaw Falls (tallest in Canadian Rockies) to the peaceful shores of Emerald Lake, you’ll experience the rugged, untamed side of the Canadian Rockies that many visitors miss.
Overview
Waterfalls, Wilderness, and Wonder
Your journey into the heart of Yoho begins with a scenic drive past the mirror-like Vermilion Lakes and the fortress of Castle Mountain. As we cross the Continental Divide into British Columbia, the landscape becomes even more dramatic.
- Engineering & Nature: We start with a stop at the Lower Spiral Tunnels Viewpoint, where you can witness the incredible “figure-eight” railway tracks that allow trains to navigate the treacherous Kicking Horse Pass. Nearby, we visit the Natural Bridge, where the Kicking Horse River has carved a stunning limestone arch over thousands of years.
- Emerald Lake & Field Town: We spend time at the jewel-toned Emerald Lake, the largest lake in the park. Take a quiet stroll or simply enjoy the view of the surrounding President Range. We’ll then stop in the historic railway town of Field for a charming picnic break—the perfect place to refuel in a quiet mountain setting.
- The Power of Water: The afternoon is dedicated to Yoho’s spectacular falls. We head to Takakkaw Falls, which drops a staggering 373 meters (1,224 feet) from the Daly Glacier. Finally, we enjoy a moderate guided hike to Wapta Falls. This 4km round-trip trail leads you to a massive, 30-meter high curtain of water that spans the entire width of the Kicking Horse River.
This is a day of deep greens, rushing blues, and the refreshing mist of the mountains. Our small-group format and professional guides ensure you have plenty of time to soak in the “Yoho spirit” without the rush of big bus tours.
