From December to February, the tour transforms into a magical Winter Ice Bubble Adventure, where we strap on snowshoes at Bow Lake and hunt for the famous frozen methane bubbles of Abraham Lake.

  • Winter Special: Ice Bubble hunting at Abraham Lake and Snowshoeing at Bow Lake.
  • Iconic Stops: Always includes the breathtaking Bow Lake and the “Wolf-Head” Peyto Lake.

Overview

Experience the Power of the Icefields Parkway

Your journey begins with a pickup from Calgary, Canmore, Banff, or Lake Louise Village as we head North on Highway 93. This is a day of massive scale, where peaks tower over the road and history is written in the ice.

Regular Season (March – November): Choose Your Path After visiting the turquoise shores of Bow Lake and the famous wolf-shaped Peyto Lake, you have two ways to spend your afternoon:

  • Option A (May – October 12): The Columbia Icefield Adventure (3 Hours): Board a massive Ice Explorer all-terrain vehicle to drive directly onto the Athabasca Glacier. You’ll have the rare chance to walk on 10,000-year-old ice and drink pure glacial water. Afterward, walk the glass-floored Skywalk perched 280 meters above the Sunwapta Valley.

  • Option B: The Waterfall & Glacier Trail: If you prefer to stay on solid ground, join us for a scenic hike along the Athabasca Glacier Forefield Trail. We then continue further into Jasper National Park to witness the raw power of Sunwapta Falls and the spectacular Athabasca Falls, where the river has carved deep potholes into the ancient rock.

Winter Season (December – February): The Ice Bubble Tour When the mountains turn white, the magic moves to the ice.

  • Snowshoeing at Bow Lake: Experience the silence of the winter wilderness as we put on snowshoes to trek across the frozen expanse of Bow Lake.

  • Abraham Lake Ice Bubbles: We travel to the “Blue Ice” of Abraham Lake to find the world-famous methane bubbles frozen in layers beneath the surface—a photographer’s dream and a natural phenomenon found in very few places on earth.
